OllyDbg is a powerful and lightweight
Ring3 debugger, with support for plugins. It is shareware, however registration is free and the software is not crippled in any way, until registration.
- Currently at V1.10, OllyDbg implements a powerful set of features at the application level (Ring3).
- Some of these features include:
- an intuitive, easy-to-use GUI,
- (Un)Conditional breakpoints,
- Trace functions,
- Extensible design (through a powerful plugin system),
- Ability to save all modifications to a file,
- Incorporation of debugging information, when available,
- A powerful plugin development kit and scripting features through the plugin (OllyScript),
- Many, MANY more features.
Currently in the works is Ollydbg 2.0 which boasts an even larger set of features, though it has yet to be given a release date (One thing's for sure, we're all looking forward to it ;).
As an incredibly powerful debugger, OllyDbg is not only a debugger, but a suite of reversing tools which is easy to use for the newbie as well as the more experienced. This debugger is the obvious choice for those starting out, wishing to learn how to debug in the Ring3 environment.
